Millennium Celebrations

A committee made up from the Parish Council and the Village Hall Committee has been discussing how Reach should celebrate the millennium. Suggestions have been put forward but of course it is early days and we are hoping for a good response from villagers with their ideas.

So far suggestions include:

1. Lighting a beacon on New Year's Eve at a high point in the village this could be in conjunction with other villages in the East Cambridgeshire area, maybe funded by the District Council.

2. Barbecue on the village green on New Year's Eve followed by fireworks at midnight. Although it will be winter it could be fun.

3. Lighting up the Jubilee tree on the village green.

4. A party in the village hall on New Year's Eve hopefully with live music. Some form of covering erected behind the hall to cope with the huge numbers of eager party goers expected. We will be asking soon if you and/or relatives/guests are likely to be in the village on this special night to get some idea of numbers.

5. A party for children possibly on l st January 2000, if they have more energy than their parents!

6. A football match on 2nd January (morning).

7. A family service in St Etheldreda's also on 2nd January (afternoon) followed by tea.

8. A presentation of celebration mugs to all children plus the chance to buy for adults.

9. A book, mainly photographs of Reach. Do you have any old photos, maybe of your home as it was and as it is now, or just general village scenes. If you do, please show them to Graham Miller, 24 Great Lane. They will be looked after carefully. The aim is to publish the book in time for Reach Fair 2000.

10. A long-term village project, possibly tidying up The Hythe. Any other ideas?

Please think about this and give your ideas/comments to anyone on the Parish Council or Village Hall Committee. It may be a long way off but the better it is organised the more fun we shall have.
