The David Urwin Arts Award was set up in 1988 to commemorate the life and work of David Urwin. His active support and encouragement for the development of all things artistic in his own village and local area provided the inspiration for this award. The Trustees of the award are now pleased to invite applications for the Award(s) to be made for 1999. Individuals, groups or organisations connected with, or resident in villages within the catchment area of Bottisham Village College are eligible. Previous applicants and award winners may also apply.
The terms of the Trust allow money to be awarded for the support of.
a. bursaries to enable individuals to extend their experience in their field of the Arts
b. concerts and exhibitions
c. residencies in the area for professional artists, e.g. painter, sculptor, composer, poet
d. commissioning or purchasing of works of art
e. the general pursuit of artistic endeavour which would benefit the area in any ways that would reflect David Urwin's broad interest in the Arts
Previous awards have included: bell pulls for a group of bell-ringers; support for a working exhibition of print-making; a local residency for a sculptor; musical and arts equipment for primary schools; an oboe for a gifted student; tuition for young dancers; embroidery classes for the elderly; Masterclasses for talented young musicians; and support for the making of a local film.
The combined value of the Awards in 1999 will be up to £1000; one or more Awards may be made. Successful applicants will be expected to write a report for the Trustees on the implementation of their Award.
APPLICANTS SHOULD SUPPLY THE FOLLOWING:
i) A completed application form
ii) A referee's report; the pro-forma on the reverse of the application form may be
used as is, or photocopied and sent separately by the referee
(iii) A letter giving further details if it is felt that this would be helpful to the
Trustees
