Report on the Tutored Wine Tasting
Friday 15th January 1999 8pm sharp! Reach Village Hall
40 people pre booked and 39 duly turned up for this event.
We all fitted snugly into the village hall and there was an air of apprehension at the beginning.
Richard soon got started - after all we did have 9 different wines to try.
Nibbles were served with the white wines then cheese pate and biscuits with the reds.
The theme was "New World" versus "Old World" and supermarket wines versus independent wine merchants.
The evening was very informative, we learnt how to assess and appreciate wine:
1.Colour
2.Smell
3.Taste
4.Conclusion
Richard spoke about styles of wine, climates and soil types.
There was a lot of questions and interaction (probably a little too much by the end of the evening - (for the life of me I can not imagine why!!!) and I believe that most people had a very good evening - all for a fiver!!!
A big thank you to the organisers led by David Summers, with the assistance of Wendy and Gill, and to all of the ladies who prepared the food, led by Sue Summers, it was excellent. Thanks go to all the helpers who cleared up afterwards as well.
