REACH FAIR DAY
Children's excitement fills the air,
May has arrived and with it the fair,
Once a year with this we are blessed,
Maypole and Morris dancers all well dressed,
Family and friends have come from afar,
By foot, on bikes or in the car,
All to gather on the village green,
One day of the year that must be seen,
The mayor has arrived to make his speech,
What a grand day for the people of Reach,
'I declare this fair open' at 12/o clock,
Then shiny new pennies begin to drop,
If you are lucky and you can catch,
You might get one from the batch,
The Maypole dancers are ready to go,
Weeks of practice waiting to show,
Then up on the carousel for a ride,
Or the cake walk will shake you from side to side,
Now you've been on the stalls and spent all your money,
On hot dogs, cakes and pots of honey,
The traders have had a very good day,
The people begin to fade away,
The bar is closed there's no more bitter,
Time to tidy and pick up the litter,
A lot of hard work but all worth while,
A happy reunion to make us smile,
For over 800 years it has been this way,
We all have memories of a very special day.
