Bottisham Village College

New Warden at Bottisham Village College

I took up my post on Monday 2nd June and I was immediately impressed by the warm welcome from the staff, governors and pupils.

I am very proud to have been appointed as Warden of Bottisham Village College because of the strong reputation the school has for academic success, for excellence in the arts and because of the thriving community programme.

However, I am not complacent; the College can be improved, and I look forward to meeting many of you and hearing your views as we move forward.

DIAMOND JUBILEE

The sixtieth birthday of the College has been celebrated m style! So many people contributed to a wide range of events: pupils, staff, Governors and Friends gave freely of their time and enthusiasm, and they create a celebration which will dive m the memory for years to come.

One highlight was the whole school Assembly on June 25th. Guests of honour were local residents who were pupils of the College m 1937. Along with two Year 7 pupils they cut our 60th birthday cake and Rev.Val Brechin, Vicar of Bottisham and Lode with Longmeadow blessed the College, as the Bishop of Ely had done at its opening.

During our Jubilee Weekend 27, 28, 29th June the College was 'buzzing' with actively throughout. Arts 22 brought visiting artists from abroad; our partner schools from France and Germany brought pupils across to celebrate with us and we were delighted to see so many former pupils and staff walking around the College and reliving old memories of the war, the cane, the eccentric woodwork master and of their friends and sweethearts.

Many Visitors remarked upon the excellent facilities that have grown up over the years often because of the energetic support of the local community. Others noted the superb work that was on display and many complimented the pupils for their helpfulness and courtesy during the celebrations.

We are left with a great sense of pride: we have a College with an important place in its local community, a strong heritage and a bright future.
