Citizen Advocacy

Regd. Company No. 2842X72 Regd. Charity No. 1057372

Have you ever felt in need of support when making the more difficult decisions in life? Do you get angry when you hear of people missing out on opportunities? Citizen Advocacy Southern Cambridgeshire is an organisation that tries to redress that balance for people who have learning difficulties including those who live in Reach. These people can be very isolated and may have had such little experience of making choices that this is almost impossible for them. We are urgently looking for volunteers who can form a one to one relationship with someone with learning difficulties living in Reach and the surrounding area and who through that relationship can represent their partner's needs as if they were their own. We call this a Citizen Advocacy Partnership and is a great way for people to get their views heard. We also want to hear from people with learning difficulties who need this support. The project exists to bring together people with and without learning difficulties to form a relationship within which advocacy can happen. By advocacy we mean a volunteer representing the needs of the disabled person as if they were their own needs; this can be about the big and also the little things in life. One of the major roles which an advocate can take is to act as a door into the community -particularly important in a village community. Staff at the project are available for support and training is provided locally where possible.

Please ring Kirsty or Alan on 01223 516637 to find out how you can get involved.
