Neighbourhood Watch

Reporting Incidents and Crime

Unusual Events

These would include unusual car numbers, unexpected callers, etc. They  may be perfectly innocent and you should  note this information on a sheet  of paper. If it transpires later that a crime is reported, then these notes can  be used to check for anything that ties in. Please be vigilant, keep your eyes  open and make a note of anything unusual.

Suspicious Incidents
A suspicious incident is anything that is out of the ordinary or unexpected  and does not appear to be normal. If it is suspicious to you, it is suspicious  to the police. Let the police decide what the response ought to be. So this
incident needs reporting to the police immediately in the first instance and  later the Co-ordinator should be informed so he knows what is going on.
Very often the Co-ordinator doesn't hear for days after and often finds out  when he attends the cluster meeting once a month.  He does feel stupid not  knowing a burglary took place in his village.

To continue I was informed the other day of a quite innocent person who was in the village. They had been looking around outside their friends house for over 20 minutes before they were approached by anyone to ask what they were doing. A burglar takes less than five minutes to enter leave and get away.

A recent incident in the village generated a very interesting remark and I am still now trying to understand the meaning of this remark "Where was Neighbourhood Watch"  Neighbourhood Watch is supposed to be all of us keeping our eyes and ears open. If when this incident happened somebody had noted the unusual car's registration number that was cruising the village or had noted there was a  suspicious person  walking down the road.  The Police could have been informed immediately.  Not through the co-ordinator  (he has to work sometimes).  Then the Co-ordinator could have been informed later so as to be aware of the situation. Remember you can dial 999 as easily as I can and you will probably know a lot more about the incident at the time than I do.

I have checked with William Lester in the Kings and he is still willing to back me up so if  I'm not around William can be contacted on 741745.
