Remembrance Day 2018

Sunday November 11th

5.15pm to 6.30pm in the Church and on the Village Green

This year is a special year and in addition to our Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial from 10.45am, there will be celebrations across the UK marking the day 100 years ago when the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War.

The following is planned in addition to the Service of Remembrance:

From 5.15pm In the Church there will be a Display of Information and historical items related to those who are named on our War Memorial courtesy of Jo Redfarn - tea and coffee will be served

5.45pm Charles Moseley, also in the Church, will recite a Selection of WW1 Poetry

6.00pm The Beacon on the Green will be lit

6.15pm We will sing along to a Medley of WW1 Songs, music provided by Hilary Fielding

6.30pm The event will close with the playing of the Last Post and everyone is invited to adjourn to the Dyke's End where Frances will be supplying complementary sausage rolls.

Jo and Paul have also put Posies of Poppies around the village, each dedicated to one of those on our War Memorial. They are positioned as close as possible to where they and their families lived.

And on Saturday 8 candles will be put in place on the war memorial - one for each of the fallen

The brochure for this UK wide celebration is very informative - its worth a read click here to download it.
