SPEEDWATCH

The Reach Parish Council is involved with Speedwatch and very much supports its objectives. Reach is a lovely village with a range of residents from small children to the elderly. Speedwatch is designed to provide protection from speeding drivers.

It allows the public to get actively involved in monitoring the speed of vehicles travelling through the village. It is used in areas where speeding has been identified as a problem.

The scheme, run by the police alongside the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership, is about educating motorists in the law in relation to speeding and monitoring any trends in speeding in neighbourhoods.

Volunteers are trained to use a speed indicator device which displays the vehicle's speed. The registered owner of any vehicle exceeding the speed limit is sent an advisory letter from their local neighbourhood policing team, explaining that speeding is unacceptable to the local community.

Persistent offenders will receive a visit from officers.
