Re-opening of Congregational Church, taken from the Cambridge Independant Press, 12th August 1904
Special services in connection with the re-opening of the Congregational Church Reach were held on Sunday and Monday with great rejoicing. Mr Henry Green of Catley Park delivered two helpful discourses in the afternoon and evening to large congregations and an appropriate selection of anthems was admirably rendered by the choir. On Monday a public tea was provided in Mr Bower's barn, kindly lent, and a public meeting was held in the Chapel in the evening. Mr D. Munsey of Cambridge made a genial chairman. Mr F. Collier led the meeting in prayer and excellent addresses were given by Revs. Ernest M.Drew of Newmarket, W. Hughes of Soham, J. Phillips of Burwell, Messrs H. Howard, George Webb CC, and Allen Hills. The choir efficiently rendered a capital selection of anthems and Miss Jennings accompanied on the organ. Mrs G. Webb gave a financial statement which stated that upwards of £54 had been expended on renovation of the Church. Through the generosity of the Chairman assisted by friends connected with the Church and other sympathisers at a distance that sum was collected. The Pastor (Rev. J. W. Upton) expressed deep obligation to the Chairman, Mr and Mrs G. Webb, the speakers, officers of the Church and all friends who had so liberally helped to make the occasion so successful.
