Health for Life
Activities for older or lonely people
Would you like to help someone improve their health and confidence by enabling them to attend an activity outside their home? If so, you may be interested in a new community project in your area.
Burwell Surgery, Bottisham Surgery and Fulbourn Health Centre together with Community Education and Addenbrooke's Trust are running a local project to help improve the health of people who feel lonely and isolated due to emotional difficulties such as depression, agoraphobia, panic attacks or bereavement. We hope that by offering them the chance to join local clubs and classes they will be able to boost their confidence, meet other people and develop new interests.
Community Education has a wide programme of classes in the area and many villages organise their own clubs and activities. However, the people in our project may not have the confidence to attend the activities alone or may not have transport available.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to befriend an older or lonely person. You may need to provide transport only or you could attend the activities with the person, becoming a leafing partner and enjoying, free of charge, an activity you are interested in too.
