December 1976,
Parish Council News The parish council are sending another letter to the County Surveyor concerning The state of Reach bridge, as the bridge now appears to be dropping in the middle Of the top. Village Hall Gossip The renovations to the Centre are now reaching a stage where every improvement Is visible and not hidden underground, We are under taking the renovation of the existing floor, with very pleasing results, Renovation being arduous planning and sanding and feeding with linseed oil, prior to Polishing The editor of the Out Of Reach, attended our last meeting to discuss recreational activities, in particular the forming of a badminton club, 1 think reviving Reach Sports and Social Club would be a good idea and might help financially. Shire Hall Titbits I mentioned last month the very tight financial situation facing Shire Hall at the present, and whilst trying hard not to be too depressant, I must state again that this is becoming clearer daily, we are of course, now entering our budget season, and it is plain that for reasons of common sense, good housekeeping, which Cambridgeshire is becoming well known for, and also due to Government belt fighting, long overdue, that further economies will have to be made. January 1977 Parish News The Parish Council precept will be slightly increased this year, to balance the effects of inflation, and to pay Mr Reed for the upkeep of the cemetery. The Council has written to the District Council, asking for the proposed path along Burwell Road near the old peoples homes, to be laid now, rather than wait until the additional dwellings are built Village Hall Gossip Early in the month a lot of fun was had during the Tramps Night, by those who entered into the spirit of the evening, I must say our Vice Chairman would have been moved on from any park bench, in his get up was so good, I leave it to your imagination as to what his Pirate get up would be More next time Bill Estall |
