| Once again the County Farm
estate has contributed several million pounds to County
coffers. We should be in a parlous state indeed without
these transfusions each year. The estate is very large at
36.000 acres and offers a livelihood to about 380
tenants. Work proceeds on the repair to Bottisham Pool, although the reopening date may fall back to the late autumn. Meanwhile, the Newmarket Pool is full of former Bottisham swimmers and now the refurbished pools in Cambridge and Ely offer temporary more distant alternatives. Grant aid towards the Bottisham Pool has been received from East Cambs. District Council, Bottisham, Bulbeck and Lode parishes and the County will be feeding in the first quarter million from its Risk funds. The rest will be covered by insurance. It now seems to be confirmed that the fire Station located on the D.S. Smith site in Reach Road, Burwell is to be given free to the Combined Fire Authority, thus securing some protection from fires and speedy help at accidents. James Fitch |

| The time has
come to start the serious work of putting this project in
to top gear. Would anyone out there who has pictures old or new that will help tell the story of Reach over the years please get in touch with me, I also need to have some form of caption or even a story to go with the pictures. It is important to remember that pictures taken quite recently are also needed, maybe we could even use some drawings or stories written by the children of the village. This is a once in a lifetime chance for everyone in the village to be part of history, but it will not happen without your participation, so please look in your lofts and cupboards and call me Grahame Miller 01638 741428 or if you prefer pop in and see me at 24 Great Lane. |

| Bela Fonte Baga 1997
Viho Regional Beiras Delightful red wine from northern Portugal made exclusively from the native Baga grape. Made exclusively from hand picked and thick skinned berry fruit from the Baga variety, its a delicious full-bodied choice with red meats and cheese. Deep ruby in colour its fine cherry and red currant fruit flavours blend well with a hint of southern spice. An appealing intense rich spice fruit aroma plus its down to earth value for money price at £4.79 make it worth a try. Its a little different from the Cabs and Merlots in the under £5 market. Available at Tesco. Richard Mynott |
