The Reach War Memorial

Dear Villagers

One night just after we opened some war veterans asked me “if it was right that the pub had been bought by the village?” I replied “It was true, the village had saved the pub.” They than said “it is a shame they don’t think as much about their War Memorial”. Well, some time later I remembered this remark and decided to do something about it, so at the end of last year I approached the Parish Council and put the idea to them. Since then the funds have been coming in and GOOD NEWS! We have now reached a figure of £2830.00, enough to start the restoration work.

This money has been made up as follows:-

£1330.00 has been raised by Football Cards on quiz nights (Thank you Stu art) and your £1 entry fee, change from drinks by locals and outsiders, swear box, raffles etc.

£500 donation from the Reach Village Amenity Fund.

£1000 donation from Simon Gibson Charitable Trust A very big thank you .

Thanks also go to Reach Parish Council who have worked on getting quotes and organising the safe keeping of the money.

All this in less than a year, a very big thank you to all concerned, and with a bit of luck the Reach War Memorial will be looking as good as new for this November 11th.

What’s the next project - would like a break first though!

THANK YOU SO MUCH ………………

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all those who kindly sponsored me on my cycle ride on 30th June 2002 for the

Arthur Rank Charity.

I completed thirty miles round local countryside and through your generosity have raised just over £350
