Broadband in Reach |
As you are all aware the internet has become faster, no longer waiting hours for that page you are looking for to appear. We as a small Rural Community MAY one day see this revolution but can you wait ! Ian Hill of Drakken Ltd has very kindly given us the opportunity to use his lines to gain faster access to the internet. However we as a village have got to get to the Burwell Road somehow. This can be done with a wireless system. The whole project is not going to be cheap, but apparently grants are available to help. What we need to know now is exactly how many people in the village are interested and where they live so we can get an idea of the overall size of the project. If you are interested could you please put a slip of paper through my door or phone me on 742884, leaving your details if necessary on the answer phone. Once we have an idea of interest we can then work out costs etc. and see if the whole project is feasible. Dave Summers |
The Memorial |
This Memorial was first installed in the early 1920's in memory of those people of Reach who lost their lives in the first World War. It is often commented upon, that it does not remember those from the second World War. I am pleased to say that this is because Reach did not loose any of it's parishioners in that war. It was first renovated/restored in the early 1950's. In the early part of 2001, the Parish Council was approached by some parishioners and in particular the landlord of our village pub, Mr. Philip Vincent, with the view that the memorial was in need of refurbishment again, and to that end he was prepared to help to raise funds in his public house. The rest is history, donations were sought and encouraged from the pubs clientele and varies bodies associated with the village and from the parishioners themselves The obelisk, the main body of the memorial, is made from Red Mansfield stone, which is now very difficult to obtain. So it is even more important that this memorial is correctly maintained and looked after. The Parish Council and the parishioners of Reach wish to thank all those who donated so generously to this restoration work. Thank You The above words were read out by The Chairman of Reach Parish Council just prior to the remembrance service at the memorial on Sunday 10th November 2002 |
