7) New Town Concentrate all new building into another larger Bar Hill type town well tied to road or rail links-with the City. Examples might be Waterbeach or Oakington (Defence redundant bases), or more worryingly for us Six Mile Bottom.

My - initial view is that we will not find ourselves facing one, of these solutions but a selection of parts of 3 or 4. Watch this space!

Reach For A Pint Ltd

And the hard work begins! Finally the village initiative is a reality and the pub has been bought.

The 'day of action' was a great success with several trailer loads of unwanted items being cleared away enabling the renovation work to commence.

Following liaison with the various planning, building and other authorities, a master plan is now in place and we can move forward.

Administratively, the next step will be to start working on how we plan to run the pub in its initial period before we look to get a manager or tenant installed.

Practically though, we'll soon be at the stage where general help with painting etc will be needed... we'll work out a system of putting a sign outside the pub when volunteer help would be appreciated. Keep an eye out for it!

Reach for a Pint Ltd is the vehicle for the venture with 48 shareholders pitching in to help make it happen. We have been heartened by the many others who helped during the action day or have indicated their willingness to help in kind. It remains a village initiative with the one common aim of keeping a public house in Reach.

We will in due course be on the look out for wooden chairs. Old - yet sturdy - examples! If they are painted, no problem, we can have them dipped. Various sizes and shapes are sought. Let us know if you have anything suitable and surplus.

Male spiders are often eaten by the female immediately after mating. To ensure their survival, the males of one species offer the ladies a ‘present’ usually a fly, in the hope that they will have time to mate and get away , alive while the gift is still being opened.

The greatest number of ‘husbands’ eaten by a black widow spider is 25 in one day. Perhaps they should have bought her a present………
