With three tenders in hand for the repositioning of the font to the North Transept it was decided that with our limited funds a cheaper option might be to move the font to it’s former position of slightly to the side of where it is now, besides the old base may still be there.

However it was decided that we would ask John Holmwood if he could lift some floorboards to see if the old base remained and how far down the soil level was in the North Transept.

But John went further than this and you have probably seen the incredible outcome in Church.

Not only did John lift the floorboards but he decided that over a matter of weeks he could fulfil the architects schedule of works for the repositioning of the font.

We are very grateful to John’s hard work over many cold evenings in Church, building a new base for the font.

We are also very grateful for the work Glen Newman, Robert Wood and John undertook to move the font to it’s new position.
