Reach Table Tennis Evening

16 hopeful entrants to the first annual table tennis singles competition turned up for what resulted in some nail-biting encouraged by spectators grouped around the two tables

The standard of the players varied greatly from those who practised ping-pong on their dining room tables with dinner mats to those who had obviously spent their teenage years every night at the local youth club developing their spin techniques.

Those who found themselves drawn against either Bryan Pearson or Phil Lewis in the early rounds soon realised that they were for the early bath. The exhilarating and hard fought three game final was narrowly won by Bryan beating Phil by the smallest of margins.

The doubles tournament featured a draw both for the order of play and for partners leading to some very interesting pairings. The result of the final between Janet Hall plus Janet Newman against Bryan Pearson and Tony Jordan never really being in any doubt.

Although everyone looked forward to Joyce wielding a table tennis bat she preferred a frying pan and provided hot-dogs and onions for us all, much to our enjoyment - thank you , Joyce !

We shall repeat this event in the Autumn, so watch out for the notices in the magazine. We have a very mixed standard and everyone should be able to play one or two games with someone of a comparable ability and have some enjoyable exercise at the same time.
