Burwell toy Library has reopened for the Autumn Term with yet more new and exciting toys to loan out, thanks to a very generous grant from East Cambridge District Council of over £900. The Burwell Toy Library committee are very grateful to the council for the grant which has enabled us to extend the different sorts of toys we can now offer. We have invested in further large toys as well as a good selection of lovely wooden toys, more baby toys and some toys which we hope could be particularly good for children with special needs. Along with the generous donations we received from local businesses and organizations earlier in the year we now have a full range of toys which should appeal to babies, toddlers and pre school children. …everything from baby gyms to easels, train sets, kitchen and farmyard sets as well as the latest laptop computer for children, see-saws and slides! The Toy Library was re started in September 2000 and has been running with a committee and a group of committed volunteers who keep this community service, open to anyone from the surrounding areas of Burwell. The Toy Library will continue to open every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 2.00 pm to 3.15 pm in the Pheonix Room, Burwell Village College. Membership costs £3 annually per family and a borrowing fee is payable at the sessions. The borrowing fee depends on each toy and can range from 50p to £2. The toys can then be kept for two weeks until the next session or loaned out for up to six weeks. Toys can be also be borrowed for a special occasion like a child’s party. As we now have an up to date catalogue with colour pictures it makes reserving and choosing suitable toys even easier. Why not come along and see for yourself! The Toy Library will be open on the following dates:
