HEALTH FOR LIFE Free classes for Volunteers Would you like to attend a community education class such as art, crafts, pottery, needlecraft, local history, computing, scrabble or gentle exercise free of charge? Well you can - if you volunteer to take an isolated or vulnerable person with you. You will also be offered help with your fuel costs. Volunteers are needed by Health for Life, the local community project which helps isolated or vulnerable people improve their confidence, health and independence by attending community education classes and village clubs. People are referred on to the project by their GP or other health workers. Volunteers provide essential support for these people who have lost their confidence and become isolated for many social or medical reasons including bereavement, anxiety, depression, disability, family problems and caring responsibilities. In their activities they make new friends, learn new skills and interests and start to `feel better'. So, if you have a couple of hours free a week and would like to know more about becoming a Health for Life volunteer, please contact Samara Philpott 01638 743658. |
