Chef fulfils dream to run pub
Villagers who bought their own pub have unveiled the new tenantthe former head chef of one of the regions best known restaurants. After three years at Stocks restaurant in Bottisham Philip Vincent will be in charge of the pub in Reach when it re-opens on October 16, fulfilling his dream to run his own business. In December 1997, the landlord of The Kings pub in Fair Green, Reach, announced he wanted to convert the building back into a house. But the villagers were not willing to lose their last pub and clubbed together to form a company called Reach for a Pint Ltd to buy the premises. |

The pub will revert to its original name, The Dykes End. |
Mr. Vincent said the move had come about purely by chance - he was at a pub in Burwell talking about his wish to set up on his own when a villager from Reach mentioned the vacancy.I had a good feeling about the pub as soon as I walked in and when I met some of the locals I felt I would fit in. The building will have a restaurant on the first floor with a public bar serving snack type food below. Courtesy of Cambridge Evening News September 18 1999 Picture Gareth Fuller |

Bees communicate with each other by tail wagging and whirling. But not all bees speak the same language, because Egyptian and German bees cannot understand each other. Queen bees might lay as many as 3,000 eggs in one day. |
