Did you know that membership to the Lizy Twinning Association is open to all the surrounding villages? The following report of a recent visit to our twin village shows that a good time is had by all! If you would like to learn more about the twinning come along to our next social meeting on October 16 at the Day Centre in Burwell at 7.30 pm. (More details below) A weekend this August saw the official annual exchange to Lizy from Burwell. As usual, our French friends extended wonderful hospitality and whilst the trip was only short, it was certainly busy. A group of Burwellians travelled over in cars on the Friday and were met with a reception party early on the Friday evening. On the Saturday a coach trip was arranged to the forest of Compiegne. Here the party visited the railway wagon where the 1918 armistice was signed. This was followed by a guided tour of the Chateau of Compeigne and a short trip to the town. The French hosted a Saturday evening of entertainment at a restaurant in the country, with singing and dancing! During the evening we presented a picture of Burwell - by local artist Lynne Woodhams - to the village of Lizy. The Sunday was spent at home with the host families and most people travelled home in the afternoon, although some took the opportunity to extend their holiday in France. We are looking forward to reciprocating the hospitality in the next exchange visit in the year 2000. If you are interested in the twinning and would like to learn a little more about what is involved, why not come along to our Social evening/AGM which is being held on Saturday 16 October at 7.30 pm at the Day Centre in Parsonage Close. We are offering a complimentary glass of wine plus French cheese and bread. So please come along, entrance is free. We look forward to seeing you.
