Comment

Cllr Robinson said no encouragement was given to people wanting to live and work in the countryside; Cllr Aves said it was inevitable that people would want to be near Cambridge as that is where most facilities are, such as entertainment.

Swaffham Prior Primary School

Cllr Pearson reported that there is to be a total re-structuring of staff with a new teacher to support the very large class. There is to be a major upgrade of IT donated by a local internet company so classes will be on the network. Cllr Pearson commented that Cambridgeshire was badly under funded for education.

Matters arising

The invoice for the new light on the wall of The Old Post Office (damaged by a lorry in March) has been forwarded to the insurance company acting for the haulage company. Unfortunately the light has been hit again by another large lorry. The incident had been witnessed and reported to the police.

Correspondence

It was agreed to donate £13 to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. ECDC had sent a draft copy of their Economic and Community Development Action Plan 1999/2000. The PC welcomed this and commented that it was good to see considerations aimed at towns and villages other than the usual large ones.

The Energy Conservation Officer had written about free energy advice and light bulbs for the coming winter. ECDC had written reminding the PC about Facilities Grants. Clerk had made enquiries to see if funding for a streetlight which has collapsed could be replaced out of this fund and had received a positive response.

The Environmental Health Department at ECDC had sent a map asking residents to

mark sites of previous contaminative use. This had been completed and returned.

Reach Matters

Cllr Summers commented that motorbikes had been causing 'noise pollution' for four hours one day and noted that some underage riders were using the Byway.

The new play area equipment was reported as being dirty and being used for 'undesirable activities' which was causing some concern
