Monday 1st May 800th Anniversary Celebrations Arrangements for the day have now been finalised, and if the weather is kind to us, it should be an enjoyable and successful event. The playing field will be used for additional items which include Medieval re-enactments with knights in armour, archery, crafts and folk singing, also cubkarts and extra food. The Saxon display and some of the stalls and games will be there too, as the funfair will take up all of the top green this year. After about 4.30 the lower green will be cleared (all hands on deck!) hopefully allowing people time for a well-earned break before the evening entertainment begins at 6. It is planned to start with the Tug-of-War contest. (More teams are still needed for this so contact Grahame or Phil if you are not signed up yet. As it will be a fun version of the traditional village event, you don't have to be a weight lifter to join in!). There will also be the beer tent, hot and cold snacks and live music. The funfair will start up again at 6 and go on till dusk .It is hoped everyone will come along for the evening, enjoy themselves after the more hectic activities of the day, and celebrate together the achievement of this historic occasion! As usual, lots of help is needed, particularly for the following:- In the weeks/days before the fair: baking cakes, making food for teas, putting up posters. On the day: setting up, helping on stalls, selling programmes, clearing away (lots needed), helping run the tug-of-war contest. Those who usually help are always greatly appreciated (though please let someone know that you are available again), but can we also appeal to anyone who has not helped before. For the benefit of the various newcomers to the village, (apart from saying welcome to our community), we should mention that all the profits from this mammoth undertaking are used to keep the village hall going and it is therefore well worth the effort! So if you can lend a hand, even if it's just for an hour, please contact: Jen Holmwood 742969 - Stalls Wendy Cole 741398 - General help Andrew Hall 743737 - Programmes & Parking Joyce Harrison 742405 - Teas (Making on Sunday, selling on Monday) Claudine Bateman 742317 - Cakes (Freezer space available) Rita Dunnett 742943 - Cakes and general help Sue Summers 742884 - Bottles (Will be collecting from mid April) Grahame Miller 741428 -Tug-of-war Jacquie Lewis 742518 - Posters THANK YOU |
