I had a brilliant holiday in Florida seeing Rachelle & Marcel, (For those of you who do not know who Rachelle & Marcel are well they are my daughter and son in law)

I hope you all had a good holiday too. Now it’s back to work for us all! and in my case it’s back to editing the Out of Reach for yet another issue my 29th attempt at getting things right. I hope I am getting better!

On the front cover you will notice a picture of the Reach War Memorial which I am sorry to say is falling into a state of disrepair, Phil at the Dyke’s End suggested that we get the memorial repaired and as such has started a Reach Memorial Fund. The present sum collected is £100 however a lot more than this is required. The Parish Council have become involved and everyone is now looking for donations. To have the War Memorial totally renovated the cost will be in the order of £5000. (see page 20). If you can help please either fill Phil’s bottle up in the pub or contact a member of the Parish Council for further information.

On page 10 congratulations go in this issue to Juliet & Russell for their fantastic efforts in the triathlon and duathlon respectively, Reach is becoming quite a sporting fraternity now with bowls (the Folkes’) and the darts teams (ladies and men teams did well again). What will be next?

On a sadder note Juliet’s mother (Diana Hurst) was unfortunately killed in a car accident, at the end of August, on her return journey to Devon after visiting Reach for the weekend looking after Freya. I know you will all send with me your sincere condolences to the family.

I am very disturbed to read about alleged solvent abuse in the village (page 7) I hope that those involved realise the consequences of their actions and cease immediately. However I am sure that now all the village is aware of what might be happening the alleged culprits will either cease or return to their own villages. For further information on solvent abuse the help line phone number is on page 7 and for those of you on the net the web address is www. re-solv.org.

Doorstep salesmen - please read the article on page 17 it shows you the dos and don’ts about how to deal with the cold callers at your door. I have also included in the magazine a sticker for you to stick on your window to tell these people you will not be buying from them, please use it. I have just been informed as Neighbour hood watch co-ordinator of some thefts in surrounding villages they are as follows:

Overnight 21st-22nd Sept at St Cyriacs Church, Swaffham Prior items were taken from an unlocked church.

Overnight 22nd-23rd Sept at St James' Church, Lode a walnut table was taken from an unlocked church.

Please be vigilant and if you see anything suspicious please contact the police immediately.

Don’t forget the 2nd anniversary celebrations on Friday October 19th in the Pub, please get your ticket from Phil as soon as possible so he knows numbers to cater for.
